Basic 4 Types of Conveyor Rollers Know About It

While carrying out chain operations and moving items from one place to another, conveyors are used. A conveyor is a device or an assembly that is used to move items in a systematic way with minimal effort, along with a predefined path. Basically, there are two types of conveyors: conveyor rollers and conveyor skate wheels. Out of these 2, conveyor rollers are generally preferred.

Conveyor rollers support the weight of the material placed on the conveyor and push it forward. There are several types of rollers, each having its individual upsides and downsides. The types mainly are governed by the weight that is to be carried, the size of the material, and the speed required. The principle applied to the working of all the conveyor rollers is the same. But what varies is the assembly type. For anyone who is planning to work with conveyors, it is necessary that he or she has a fair idea of all the types of conveyor rollers. So here, I brief all the readers about the main points of each type and how each is different than the other:

1Grooved Conveyor Rollers:

This roller type is constructed of a system that is entirely dependent on rollers as the driving device of the whole conveyancing process. It locates grooves at any portion of the roller with spring-loaded on both of its ends, making it highly flexible for various applications. There is a crimped tube that ends for offering increased strength and security. The reason this type is preferred is that it is very easy to install and even easier to make changes. Also, it is so constructed that the bearings have a long life and that lowers its maintenance costs up to a great extent.

2.High-speed Conveyor Rollers:

As the name mentions, these type of conveyor rollers are used for having a high-speed conveyor system. The assembly is made of materials that are designed with precision to gain high efficiency and low friction losses. Further, bearing caps, conductive bushing, crimped tube ends, and all such minor designs are added to it to minimize the friction and noise while moving. Extra care is taken to provide a construction that ensures that items do not go out of the tube while the conveyor is moving at a high speed. All the metal parts used are galvanized and fitted in a way to reduce wear and tear to offer an extended lifespan.

3. Gravity Conveyor Rollers:

This is the type that costs the least out of all the types. This conveyor has so constructed that it uses gravity to its advantage and serves as a low-cost alternative for high-speed conveyors in some cases. The upside of this type is that it can be used in any kind of conveyor requirement and can be installed at a low cost. But this setup generates a lot of noise. So, if a loud noise is a problem, this system is not advisable.

4. Chain driven Conveyor Rollers:

This is a system that has mechanical devices attached to moving members. These moving members are usually chains or cables used to tow materials. This type of system is mostly used in material handling at manufacturing plants, where there is a requirement of towing or dragging products in different manners in a row. Also, in this conveyor system, you can use pallets filled with hard to convey materials and move them easily. The upside of this system is that it can handle and move extremely heavy weights and bulky objects.

All the above 4 types are basic types of conveyor rollers. These all are further modified and altered to fit any specific application. Clarity of the basic types would help you figure out the modifications that you need to apply for your project.
