Things No Mechanic Tells You About Brake Repairs

The braking system forms a significant part of a car’s security system. No expert driver has ever been able to maneuver the car easily without the help of brakes. Needless to say, brake parts need extra care and service.

The Whole Braking System is Comprised of 3 Basic Parts:

  1. Brake pads: These pads act as cushions and offer the required friction to the wheel to stop its rotation and bring it to a stop. The brake pads are durable to sustain all the frictional damages and flexible enough to not let the tires face any damage when brakes are applied abruptly.
  2. Brake calipers: These are the connecting tubes that attach the brake pedal to the brake pads and have the major task of infusing the required brake fluid every time the brakes are applied.
  3. Brake rotors: These are the parts that brake pads come in contact with and clamp down on to stop the moving wheel. The brake rotors are directly in contact with the wheel and can control its speed.
These 3 major parts make up the complete brake system are complex and have many interlocking spare parts. To easily rely on your brakes to spot the car exactly when you need to, each and every spare part should be working efficiently. For this, you need regular brake repairs. Your car is constantly talking to your through signs and signals, trying to tell you when something is wrong. So, pay keen attention to the signs that your car shows indicating the need for brake repairs. In case of brakes, the car gives out various sounds as well as behaves differently during the application of brakes.

Most of The Common Signals as Listed Below:

  • The brake pedal has to be pushed down too hard even for applying a slight brake. This is common in many cars if ample attention to brake servicing is not given. This is also possible if there is any breakage on the brake parts.
  • The car seems to pull to one side when brakes are applied. This can happen when the brake force is applied unevenly to the 4 wheels. Generally, brake repairs are needed on the brake pads in such cases. But, you should always get an expert mechanic take a look at your brakes as this can prove to be dangerous and can cause accidents.
  • The car’s wheels heat up while braking. This is again a probable cause of worn out brake pads or a defect in brake rotors. This also results in the squealing or screeching sounds when the brakes are applied. When this happens, brakes repairs are needed urgently as the heating up of wheels signifies that the wheels are facing friction leading to more wear and tear on the car’s tires.
  • There are strange noises like rattling, grinding, and clunking of metal during braking. These sounds clearly indicate a breakage within the braking system. You should stop by the nearest mechanic shop and get it repaired and take care to not rely on the car brakes and drive with extreme caution until you get brake repairs.
  • The brake warning light is on: The dashboard is provided with a brake warning light for obvious reasons - to warn you. This light generally indicates leakage in the brake fluid or the fall of the brake fluid level. It is better to not ignore this warning sign and ensure that road safety is maintained.
If you are vigilant enough, you could save yourself major costs of brake repairs through regular care and maintenance. Also, let us all not forget how important a role brake repair and maintenance services play in having a safe road trip.
