All You Need To Know About Awnings

An awning is what is installed over windows, doors, decks or patios both for aesthetics and to protect from sun. The shape, material, and color of the awnings can transform the appearance of your home or business. It also helps to increase the efficiency and energy utilization as the glare and sunlight is reduced. This when used on decks as well as on the patio, protects the flooring and furniture from direct sunlight. It also provides protection from light rain.

There are different kinds of awnings

Stationary ones: This has a frame that is attached to the wall permanently and these cannot be moved. They are long lasting and sturdy and provide protection from the weather all through the year. These are great for windows and doors.

Retractable ones: These can be opened or they can be pulled back when extra or less protection is needed. These either can have a hand crank or motorized controls to operate. They can be mounted on the roof or the walls and in bad weather, they can be put away. These are great for decks and patios and do not require much maintenance.

Based on where they are positioned

Window Awnings: These are attractive and they conserve a lot of energy as more energy is lost in a square foot of glass than is lost in the entire wall which is insulated. These decrease the internal temperature and decreases cooling bills.

Door Awnings: These protect the doorway from weather conditions. Especially if one has a sliding door or French door. These are non retractable ones and they allow the doors to open outward too.

Retractable Patio Awnings: These are used for aesthetics and to increase the curb appeal. It gives an upscale appearance and creates an outdoor living room where guests can be entertained or even the family can relax in. This is almost like making a low cost room. These awnings either can be extended or retracted with a motor or hand crank.

Porch Roller Curtains: These provide shade and privacy. These have a rope and pulley system and so these can be raised or lowered to whatever height is required. These are simple and they look graceful.

Porch Valance: These add a very decorative look to the porch and at the same time they do not obstruct the view. These can be made of different lengths and widths and these are hung from the ceiling from under the side.
