How To Conduct Successful Turbo Replacement Or The Repairing Of Its Parts?

When you want to change the Turbo charger, the task may seem daunting but it is not all that difficult at all. There are many considerations to make when you repair the turbo charger, as apart from the normal mechanical knowledge, you must also know the type of turbo that you are handling, and what will be its specific applications. First what you need to do is prop the car on the axle stands. You can jack it just behind the front wheel. Once done, you need to support the car so that it is on the axle stands. It is best to do it under the wishbones.

Removing the under-tray and fixing the parts of the turbocharger with screws

It is easy to work on the car when it is in the air. In it, the under tray needs to be removed. This is always held on with the help of screws in the front edge and bolts under the car. Or else it can be held on with cable ties. The under tray should be removed in such a manner that the cables and the bolts are not disturbed in any way.

  • The next to be removed are the fans of the radiator. This is done after he wiring is disconnected. Normally there are two connectors. One for each of the fans.
  • When this is done, the screws which hold the fans in place need to be removed and then the fans are to be removed. Then the coolant is to be drained. There will be around 7 – 8 liters and thus a big enough receptacle will be needed.
  • If there isn’t air conditioning, you need to remove the hoses and unscrew the radiator and pull it up. If there is air conditioning, this will need to be removed from the bottom.

Separation of the air-conditioning radiator must be done carefully

Then the air-conditioning radiator needs to be separated and the lambda sensor and heat shield needs to be removed as well. It may take a lot of wiggling to remove the heat shield and the coolant pipe too.

  • The C clamp which is used to hold the turbo to the downpipe needs to then be removed and the washers and nuts and bolts need to be kept carefully.
  • Post this, all the hoses need to be removed as well as the boost pipe from the intercooler to the compressor side.
  • You should make a note as to which pipe goes to the actuator and which goes to the compressor housing. This is needed as when you need to reconnect, you may get confused.
  • Once the coolant pipe tube and the oil feed pipe is unbolted, then the turbo needs to be connected with the help of a bracket. The connection is to the engine. In order to make the removal of the turbo easier, it is necessary to loosen it in the middle.

Check the nuts at the manifold joint

The nuts at the manifold joint once loosened the bolts which are there to hold the support bracket of the turbo can be removed. During this time the turbo is supported by the manifold. Then the manifold join nuts can be removed and the turbo needs to be lowered down carefully, due to its weight.
Then the different pipes need to be removed and the new turbo can be attached. The refitting of the new turbo is the exact same procedure of the removal of the old turbo.

You can also consider replacing jubilee clips for the old hose clips. You should also check the filter and change the oil since all this is open anyway. This way you will be able to get more work done.
